Mountain Hawks travel to Annapolis to face Navy

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh begins a brief two-game road trip on Wednesday evening as the Mountain Hawks head to Annapolis to take on the Navy Midshipmen at Alumni Hall. Lehigh is looking to snap a two-game losing streak which includes a tough 66-58 setback to first place American this past weekend at home. Junior Zahir Carrington led the Mountain Hawks with game-highs of 20 points and 12 rebounds, while sophomore Rob Keefer added 12 tallies, including a perfect six-of-six showing at the foul line, but it was not enough as AU hit two crucial three-pointers in the final five minutes to earn the win. Navy has won its last two games, both on the road, including a dramatic 62-60 overtime victory on Saturday in Lewisburg versus Bucknell. Senior Kaleo Kina, the Patriot League’s leading scorer, notched 17 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists against the Bison, while Chris Harris (14) and Mark Veazey (12) also hit for double figures.
Lehigh is currently second in the Patriot League in offensive rebounds, averaging over 12 per game. Individually, Zahir Carrington has grabbed 70 offensive boards, 14 more than any other player in the entire league. In games that Lehigh has pulled down more offensive rebounds than its opponents, the Brown and White is 6-4.
Senior Phil Anderson has struggled with his shot of late, connecting on only 36-percent from the field during league play. The California native has not hit a three-pointer in his last five games, but when he does connect from deep, Lehigh is usually successful. In the thirteen games Anderson has hit a three-pointer in this season, the Mountain Hawks are 10-3. In the seven games in which he did not sink a three, Lehigh is only 3-4.
Wednesday’s game will tip-off at 7:00 from Alumni Hall in Annapolis. The contest will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320 AM as well as Lehighsports.com with veteran Matt Kerr providing the commentary. Pre-game coverage gets underway at 6:30.
