BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh and longtime rival Lafayette meet on Saturday afternoon at Kirby Sports Center as the Mountain Hawks look to bounce back following Wednesday’s disappointing setback at Colgate in which they shot less than 30-percent and scored only 45 points. Juniors Dave Buchberger (13) and Zahir Carrington (11) managed to hit for double figures, but it was not enough as Lehigh fell for the fourth time in its last five games. The Leopards were beaten their last time out at Bucknell, by a score of 71-61, despite 19 points from senior Andrew Brown. Lafayette is 2-0 in Patriot League games played in Easton this season, with wins over Colgate and Navy. Lehigh has won only once in its last seven trips to Kirby Sports Center with the lone win coming in 2006 by a score of 76-58.
While Lehigh has struggled of late having won only twice in its last eight trips to Kirby Sports Center, the Mountain Hawks have had no problems scoring points in Easton. During those eight meetings, Lehigh has averaged 80 points; however Lafayette has averaged 83 points. During the last eight games played in Bethlehem, the Brown and White has scored 72 points per game and the Leopards have hit for only 65. Lehigh has won seven of those games inside of Stabler Arena.
Lehigh and Lafayette have already met ten times this academic year with the Mountain Hawks holding a strong 7-2-1 lead in those contests. Lehigh defeated its archrival in men’s cross country, women’s cross country, women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s swimming, women’s swimming and football. Men’s soccer played to a 2-2 draw, while field hockey and volleyball suffered losses.
