BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the second time this season, junior captain Zahir Carrington has been named the Patriot League Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday. Carrington averaged 19.5 points and 8.5 rebounds, while shooting 54-percent from the field in a pair of games for the Mountain Hawks last week. In his last four games, Carrington has been nearly unstoppable, averaging 19.5 points and 9.8 rebounds, while posting three double-doubles.
On January 14 versus Navy, Carrington sank 7-of-15 shots and scored 21 points to go along with 11 rebounds. It was the third consecutive game in which he registered a double-double, and it marked the sixth time in his career he totaled double digit points and rebounds.
The Philadelphia native then backed that up with an 18-point, six-rebound performance in Lehigh’s win over Army on January 17 at Stabler Arena. Carrington sank 7-of-11 field goals and 4-of-6 free throws versus the Black Knights, while adding one steal, and his six caroms pushed him over the 350-rebound mark for his career.
For the season Carrington is averaging a team best 14.6 points per game, as well as a Patriot League leading 7.8 boards per contest. He has scored in double figures 13 times and has led the Mountain Hawks in scoring eight times, and in rebounds nine times.
Carrington and the rest of the Mountain Hawks return to action on Wednesday evening when they travel to Hamilton, New York to take on the Colgate Raiders. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 and all of the action will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320 AM as well as Lehighsports.com. Veteran Matt Kerr will handle the commentary with pre-game coverage getting underway at 6:30.
