BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men’s basketball head coach Brett Reed has announced several adjustments to his staff for the upcoming season. Assistant Coaches Matt Logie and Jon Weiner will assume expanded responsibilities, former basketball captain and leading rebounder Bryan White ’08 will join the staff as an assistant coach, and Dave Anderson joins the program as Director of Basketball Operations. The staffing changes were precipitated when Associate Coach Matt Allen accepted a yet to be announced head coaching position.
“I appreciate Matt Allen’s service to our basketball program this past year and I am pleased that he could fulfill his longtime aspiration of becoming a collegiate head coach,” Reed explained. “Part of Matt’s initial attraction to Lehigh’s basketball program was the opportunity it would provide for further development and preparation for leading his own program.” Reed commented. “While we did not expect Matt’s advancement would occur this quickly, Lehigh has a long established reputation for developing coaches and I am pleased that Matt and his family will have this opportunity. I wish him nothing but success in his new role.”
“I am thankful for the opportunity that Lehigh University gave to me,” Allen explained. “Though I was here for only one year, it opened doors for me and gave me opportunities that I may not have had otherwise. I would like to say thank you to Brett Reed, the entire Lehigh coaching staff and the administration for all being so helpful in my time here. I am very grateful for everyone’s support.”
Allen went onto say, “The experience at Lehigh has been worthwhile in terms of my goals because I eventually wanted to be a head coach. I learned a lot at Lehigh as the year wore on and that will help me tremendously with the transition into this new position.”
Bryan White makes the move to the sidelines after a senior season that saw him average a career-high 10.5 points and lead the Patriot League in rebounding at 8.2 per contest. White’s 238 total caroms during the 2007-08 season were the most by any Lehigh player since the 1991-92 season. The Florida native finished his career at Lehigh with 746 points, 642 rebounds, 15 games of ten or more rebounds and eight double-doubles. During his junior season, White finished second in the Patriot League in rebounding and blocked shots, while as a senior, White was sixth in the Patriot League in field goal percentage and blocks, seventh in steals, and 17th in scoring.
“I am very pleased to have Bryan rejoin our basketball family,” Reed commented. “His contributions on the court have been significant, but perhaps more importantly, the recognition he has received at both the University and Patriot League level are indicators of the type of leadership and character he possesses.” Reed added, “With his background and personal attributes I have every confidence that Bryan will be a wonderful addition to our staff and will now positively impact our program in the role of an assistant coach.”
White, who served as captain of the Mountain Hawks as a senior, graduated from Lehigh in 2008 with his bachelor’s degree in marketing. White earned the Lehigh Basketball Coaches Award following his senior season, in addition to the Lehigh Athletic Department Senior Male Leadership Award and the Sportsmanship Award. In addition, White was honored as the Patriot League Male Sportsmanship Award winner.
Matt Logie and Jon Weiner served the Lehigh program last year as assistants and each will assume expanded responsibilities in the 2008-09 season. “Matt Logie has been with Lehigh’s Basketball program for a total of eight years (four as a player and entering his fifth year as a coach) and is more than ready to play a bigger role in the Lehigh Basketball program,” Reed explained. “Matt Logie’s contributions to our program have been and will continue to be vitally important, and I value his loyalty to his alma mater. Jon Weiner has earned the chance to further demonstrate his capabilities. I admire the commitment he has made to developing as a college coach.”
Anderson arrived at Lehigh following a stint at Idaho State where he was the video coordinator. Anderson has a variety of experiences within the coaching realm, having served as an assistant coach at Living Word Lutheran in Wisconsin and Century High School in Idaho. He also has extensive camp experience which includes stints at Camp Takajo in Maine, as well as Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska. Anderson received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Concordia University and has begun work on a master’s degree in Educational Leadership.
“The addition of both Bryan White and David Anderson to our coaching staff has the ability to enhance our daily operations while also promoting continuity of our program,” Reed explained.
Lehigh begins practice for the 2008-09 season on Friday, October 17.
