BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh swimming and diving teams wrapped up a busy weekend of action in the pool by sweeping a meet from NJIT Sunday afternoon at Jacobs Pool. The Mountain Hawks and Highlanders competed in a modified 18-event meet in which a number of Lehigh athletes swam unscored. Lehigh’s men prevailed 56-43, to improve to 6-0 on the season while the women won 37-21 to improve to 3-2 on the year.
“Our team did very well against a young, building NJIT team,” said Lehigh head coach Rob Herb. “It was a great day. No real highlights on our side. NJIT is just starting to build their program and we’re happy they came to compete. Now the focus turns to Lehigh-Lafayette.”
Lehigh was able to utilize many of its backups in the meet, against a NJIT squad that featured just 13 men and six women. Junior Jon Gorka and freshman Jeff Capobianco each won two individual events to lead the Mountain Hawk men. Gorka captured the 200 free in 1:53.55 and then added a win in the 100 with a time of 52.76. Capobianco took top honors in the 200 individual medley and the 100 fly.
On the women’s side, senior Julie Sicherman was victorious in the 200 free, while classmate Liz Murray won the 100 free. Junior Taylor Foxworth added a win in the 200 individual medley.
The Mountain Hawks will return to the pool on Friday, November 20 when they host the annual Lehigh-Lafayette swim meet at Jacobs Pool.
