Mountain Hawks take two from Bison on Sunday

Lehigh led the nightcap 4-1 going into the top of the seventh inning, but the Bison rallied to tie the game with three runs in the frame. Elyse Colmenero cut Lehigh’s lead to two with a one out RBI double. After a single by Sherry Finkel put runners on the corners and the tying run on base, Sweeney came out of the bullpen to relieve sophomore Tiffany Curtis, but yielded a long two-run double to Ashley Beans, which tied the score at four.
In the bottom of the seventh, Hanley made the most of her only hit of the day by blooping a ball into shallow right over the head of Finkel to score pinch runner Danielle Clark with the winning run. Junior Alisha Gonzales started the rally by leading off the inning with a single. After
Sweeney earned her second win of the day, despite facing only two batters and giving up the game-tying double to Beans. She improves to 17-3 on the season. Curtis was charged with four runs (three earned) in six and two-thirds innings, while striking out five and walking four.
The Mountain Hawks built their 4-1 lead with single runs in four of the first five innings. Gonzales put Lehigh on the board with a first inning RBI single, senior Kate Marvel drove in a pair of runs with an RBI single and a sacrifice fly, and sophomore Brooke Lewis picked up an RBI with a fifth inning double.
Katie McDonald allowed five runs on 14 hits for Bucknell, as she falls to 7-11 on the season. The Bison ended Sunday at 15-24 overall, 6-6 in league play.
In Sunday’s first game, Sweeney picked up her sixth shutout of the season while allowing just three hits. Sweeney struck out 10 Bison in the game for her 12th double-digit strikeout performance of the season.
Gonzales opened the scoring with a third inning sacrifice fly, and Sweeney provided some insurance for herself and her Lehigh teammates with a two-run home run to left field in the fifth inning. The top three in Lehigh’s batting order, Marvel, freshman Carly Potock, and Sweeney each ripped two hits in game one, to account for all six of Lehigh’s hits in the game.
The Mountain Hawks will return to the diamond on Wednesday when they visit Rider in a non-league doubleheader. First pitch for game one is set for 3 p.m. from
