Army (4-24, 0-4 PL) battled Lehigh tough all day long. The Black Knights opened the scoring in game one as Veronica Barth scored on a fourth inning infield single by Elaine Plato. The Mountain Hawks responded with two runs to take the lead in the fifth, on RBI singles from Cueva and junior Alisha Gonzales.
The Black Knights pulled even in the bottom of the sixth as Erin McClain tripled home Laura Baranek, but Lehigh grabbed the lead for good in the seventh as freshman Carly Potock singled to left field, and reached second on an error. Senior Kate Marvel moved Potock to third with a ground ball to the right side, and Cueva drove in the go-ahead run with a sac fly to right field.
Sweeney retired the Black Knights in order in the seventh inning to wrap-up her 12th win of the season. The junior right hander allowed two runs on five hits while striking out six and walking three. Barth allowed nine hits as she fell to 2-11 on the season.
Senior Megan Conrad was 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Lehigh in the opener.
The Mountain Hawks jumped on Army starter Nicole Talarczyk for three first inning runs in game two. Sweeney blasted a two run shot to left center for her fourth home run of the year, and later Piccinich made Army pay for a dropped foul ball with a RBI single that scored Gonzales.
Army battled back with three runs in the bottom of the second, capitalizing beating a pair of plays at the plate on infield ground balls and then tying the game as Cassie Ellington stole home.
Lehigh recaptured the lead in the third inning on a sac fly from Piccinich, which scored Sweeney to make it 4-3. Senior Taryn Hanley followed with a double to left center to extend the Lehigh lead to 5-3. The Mountain Hawks added a final run in the sixth inning when Marvel doubled and came in to score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Sweeney.
Curtis took care of the rest, working around four walks to fire a one-hitter while striking out three to improve to 10-3 on the season. Lehigh out-hit Army 14-1 in the nightcap, with Piccinich, Marvel, Sweeney and Hanley all recording multi-hit games.
The Mountain Hawks will return to the diamond on Wednesday when they travel to Hofstra for a non-league doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. from
