Curtis held the Peahens (0-9) hitless through six innings before Chrissy Gannon led off the seventh with an infield single. Sweeney put Lehigh ahead 1-0 in the first inning with an RBI single that scored senior Kate Marvel. The Mountain Hawks added single runs in the third and fourth innings, and three more in the seventh, powered by a two-run single from junior Alisha Gonzales and a sacrifice fly off the bat of senior Megan Conrad.
Freshman Alex Cueva went 4-for-4 for Lehigh, which ripped 12 hits against Saint Peter’s. The Peahens plated their only two runs against Lehigh on a Jackie Cross two-out two-run home run in the seventh. Curtis allowed just two runs on two hits while striking out 12 to improve to 6-2 on the season.
In the nightcap against the nationally-ranked Terps, Sweeney (9-0) worked around seven hits, while striking out 12 to earn her fourth shutout of the season and her second in as many days.
Lehigh scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the fifth inning, as Gonzales led off with a double off of losing pitcher Sarah Dooley. Freshman pinch runner Mickey LaValley was sacrificed to third, and came in to score on a single from senior Taryn Hanley. Conrad had the only other hit in the game for the Mountain Hawks, who picked up their first win over a ranked team since beating Texas A&M twice in the 2006 NCAA Regional tournament.
The Mountain Hawks will wrap up play at the Maryland Spring Break Classic with a single game on Sunday against
