COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Senior Megan Conrad and freshman Alex Cueva each drove in two runs as Lehigh defeated Niagara 6-4 Sunday in the Mountain Hawks’ final game at the Maryland Spring Break Classic. The Mountain Hawks built a 5-0 lead after two innings and never looked back en route to their fourth consecutive win, as Lehigh finishes with a 4-1 record in the tournament, tops in the six-team field, and improves to 17-2 on the season.

Lehigh raced ahead with three runs in the top of the first inning. Senior Kate Marvel led off with a walk, and then Conrad reached on an error while attempting a sacrifice. Two batters later, Cueva drilled a double to right center that scored both Marvel and Conrad. Sophomore Amy Piccinich followed with a RBI single that scored Cueva.

In the second inning, the Mountain Hawks extended their lead as Conrad smacked a two-run double to left field, which scored sophomore Brooke Lewis and Marvel to make it 5-0 Lehigh.

Heidi Conlan put Niagara on the scoreboard in the fourth inning with a two-run single off of Lehigh sophomore Tiffany Curtis. The Mountain Hawks countered with an insurance run in the fifth inning as senior Taryn Hanley scored on a single by freshman Carly Potock.

The Purple Eagles cut Lehigh’s lead to three when Jenna Baker homered in the sixth inning, and added one more in the seventh, but Curtis retired Baker on a ground ball back to the circle with the tying runs on base to end the game.

Curtis improved to 7-2 on the season, striking out five while allowing four runs on eight hits. The Mountain Hawks garnered ten hits off of three Niagara pitchers, with Marvel being the only Lehigh player to collect multiple hits. Michelle Krier (0-2) took the loss for Niagara, which falls to 7-6 on the season.

The Mountain Hawks will return to the diamond on Wednesday when they travel to Delaware for a doubleheader against the Fightin’ Blue Hens. First pitch for game one is set for 2:30 p.m. from Newark, Del.
