QUEENS, N.Y. – Lehigh suffered its second consecutive setback as the Mountain Hawks were defeated by St. John’s 7-0 Tuesday afternoon at The Courts at St. John’s. A win from the team of junior Brent Herbert and sophomore Drew Balshi at No. 3 doubles prevented the Mountain Hawks from being swept. Lehigh falls to 2-10 on the season, while the Red Storm improves to 9-6 and has won five straight matches overall.

Herbert and Balshi won 8-4 over Alex Svetlakov and Derek Wallensteen, as Lehigh head coach juggled his double teams. Senior Alfredo Fernandez-Concha teamed with classmate Brad Nelson to lose 8-4 at first doubles, while junior Jon Nespoli and sophomore Jon-Michael Caminiti were beaten at second doubles.

St. John’s continued to control the match in singles play, winning all six flights in straight sets. Fernandez-Concha came the closest to taking a set, losing 6-1 one in the first set, before dropping a second set tiebreak to Louis Desmarteaux.
