PRINCETON, N.J. – Lehigh split a non-league doubleheader against Princeton on Wednesday afternoon at Class of 1895 Field. Senior Lauren Haney hit a grand slam and drove in six runs to lead the Mountain Hawks to a 10-2 win in five innings in game one. Lehigh led game two early, but the Tigers rallied for a 3-2 victory, snapping the Mountain Hawks’ five game win streak. With the split, Lehigh is now 20-15-1 on the season, while Princeton is 16-21.

Game one saw the Mountain Hawks bats explode for 10 unanswered runs after falling behind 2-0 in the first inning. Lehigh tied the game in the fourth inning on a two-run single from Haney that scored juniors Taryn Hanley and Kate Marvel.

The Mountain Hawks then took the lead with a seven-run fifth inning. Hanley drove in go ahead runs with a two-run double from Hanley, who herself later came around to score on a Princeton error. Haney provided the exclamation point with a two out grand slam to left center, her team-leading third home run of the season.

Marvel put Lehigh up by eight with a fifth-inning RBI single that scored senior Whitney Schenbeck.

Sophomore Lisa Sweeney went all five innings in the circle, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out four and walking two. Sweeney improves to 11-4 with the win.

Lehigh raced to a 2-0 advantage in game two, as Marvel and Haney scored unearned runs in the top of the first.

Princeton rallied to tie the game on a Calli Jo Varner solo homerun in the second inning, and an RBI single from Stephanie Steel in the third.

The Tigers took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI double to centerfield from Erin Miller. Lehigh had the potential tying run on base in the top of the seventh, but Jamie Lettiere ended the game, forcing two pop-outs and a strikeout.

Freshman Tiffany Curtis (6-7) suffered the loss in the circle for Lehigh, allowing two earned runs on six hits while striking out six.

The Mountain Hawks will return to the diamond on Saturday when they travel to Lewisburg, Pa. to open a four game series against Bucknell. The teams will play doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday at Varsity Softball Field. Saturday’s twinbill gets underway at 1:00 pm, with Sunday’s doubleheader scheduled for a noon start. Lehigh athletics will broadcast Sunday’s games online at lehighsports.com with streaming audio provided by Yahoo! Sports.
