Lehigh tops Davidson 9-4 for second straight win

In the second, Lehigh went through its batting order en route to scoring its four runs. Sophomore Geoff Campbell singled up the middle to drive in freshman Dan Clauson and Lehigh took a 1-0 lead. With runners on second and third, freshman Patrick Groome hit a ground-rule double to left field that scored freshman Billy Swenson and Campbell. Groome then scored on an RBI single by junior Joe Ercolano to give the Mountain Hawks a 4-0 advantage.
Davidson cut into Lehigh’s lead in the bottom of the second as Blake Osborn scored off a bunt by Hugh Eden. In the third, senior David Moscow doubled and scored Swenson to give Lehigh another four-run lead. However, the Wildcats edged closer to the Mountain Hawks with an Alden Chrissy home run to right field and another Eden bunt that drove in Osborn to make the score 5-3 at the end of the third.
The Wildcats pulled to within one run in the fourth, but Clauson hit an RBI double to left center that allowed senior Nick Bet to score and give Lehigh a 6-4 lead.
The Mountain Hawks went through their batting order in the ninth. Junior Liam O’Connor scored Lehigh’s first run of the inning off a fielding error by Chrissy. Lehigh scored its final two runs off back-to-back bases loaded walks to make the score 9-4.
Freshman Andrew Berger earned his first collegiate win on the mound. Berger pitched 3.2 innings, struck out two batters and only allowed one hit. Mac Reed lost his first game of the season after he allowed four runs off three hits in 2.0 innings.
