PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Lehigh dropped an 18-4 decision to the Dragons of Drexel on Wednesday afternoon.  Freshman Inneke Carmola continued her solid play for the Mountain Hawks as she scored one goal, while senior Amy Chamberlain and sophomore Sara MacIntyre also netted goals for the Brown and White.  Following the loss, Lehigh falls to 1-4 on the season, while the Dragons improve to 5-1.

Drexel got on the board first when Emily Hoesch took a pass from Sarah Carter and found the back of the net at the 27:14 mark of the first half.  Kerry Kelly then put the home team in front 2-0 with 22:22 remaining in the half, but an own goal by Drexel brought Lehigh to within one at the 18:14 mark.  The Dragons scored the game’s next five goals however, to go in front 7-1 with 5:16 left in the opening 30 minutes.  Carmola would net the final score of the half with just 2:10 left on the clock, sending the teams into halftime with the Mountain Hawks trailing 7-2.

MacIntyre scored her ninth goal of the season off of a pass from senior Vienna Pharaon at the 26:38 mark of the second, and Lehigh was within four, at 7-3.  Katie Bradley and Jessica Bill then netted a total of three scores, all unassisted, in the next 2:32 to put the Dragons in front 10-3 with 23:39 to go, and Drexel would add seven more goals to go in front 17-3 at the 4:59 clip.  Chamberlain closed out the Lehigh scoring when she scored her first goal of the afternoon with 2:36 left on the clock.

Carmola led Lehigh with four shots for the game, and also scooped up a team-best three ground balls.  Sophomore Tess McGrath caused two turnovers for the Mountain Hawks, while MacIntyre, Sarah Fudin, Christy Smith and McGrath each won two draw controls.  Kelsy Ferris played the first 55 minutes in goal for Lehigh and stopped nine Dragon shots before giving way to classmate Kaitlin Dean, who sent back one shot in her time.

Lehigh returns to home on Saturday when the Mountain Hawks play their first home game since March 2 versus the Hawks of St. Joe’s.  Game time is set for 1:00 from the Ulrich Sports Complex and all of the action will be broadcast live on lehighsports.com with Jeff Tourial.
