Lehigh upended by DePaul in Classic finale

The Blue Demons raced to a 2-0 lead when Marcy Wilus hit a two run home run off of Hamasaki in the bottom of the first inning. The lead grew to 4-0 after two innings after an RBI double from Jess Evans, who later came around to score on a Lehigh error.
The Mountain Hawks scored their lone run in the third inning, as freshman Amy Piccinich walked, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt; and after Taryn Hanley singled, came around to score following an error by right fielder Sandy Vojik.
DePaul added two runs in the fourth inning and three more in the sixth to wrap up the victory via the eight-run rule.
Hamasaki suffered the loss allowing seven earned runs and eight hits while striking out three. She last appeared in the pitching circle in Lehigh’s NCAA Regional game versus Arizona in 2005, and her last start came against Bucknell in that year’s Patriot League tournament.
Lehigh mustered just two hits off of winning pitcher Becca Heteniak, singles from Hanley and sophomore Whitney Lowe. Hanley collected four of Lehigh’s 13 hits on the weekend and drove in two of the Mountain Hawks’ five runs.
