4/8/2006 12:00:00 AM | Men's Tennis

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Following a layoff of nearly two weeks, Lehigh returned to the court on Saturday, but the Mountain Hawks came up on the short end of a 6-1 score against Navy at the Severn Valley Racquet Club. The Brown and White failed to win a doubles match and one just one of six singles matches as they fall to 9-4 on the year, 0-2 in the Patriot League. The Mids improve to 11-9, 3-2 in league matches.

The lone bright spot on the afternoon for the Mountain Hawks was junior Ryan Lloyd, who defeated Jason Hill 6-3, 6-3 at second singles to account for Lehigh’s only point. Sophomore Jon Nespoli won the first set in his match against John Waters at fifth singles, but Waters came back to win the next two sets.

Navy also emerged victorious in all three doubles contests, with the closest match coming at second doubles, where Nate Nelms and Brandon Carter edged LU’s Lloyd and junior Brad Nelson 9-8 in a tiebreaker.

The Mountain Hawks will try again for their first Patriot League win on Sunday as they welcome the Raiders of Colgate to the Lewis Tennis Center. The match gets underway at 2:00 pm and will be preceded by the Lehigh-Colgate women’s match at 10:00 am.
