GEORGETOWN, Del. – Senior catcher Mary Wieder smacked her fourth home run of the season, but the Mountain Hawks could not hold a lead, falling to Mount St. Mary’s 6-5 in eight innings in their first game Saturday at the Bash at the Beach. The loss drops Lehigh’s record to 9-4 on the season. Lehigh’s afternoon contest against Monmouth was suspended due to darkness with the game tied at nine in the eighth inning. The game will resume Sunday morning at 11:00 am.
Wieder’s homer gave Lehigh a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. The Mountain Hawks tacked on a four-spot in the fifth inning, but the Mountaineers came roaring back with three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh, before pushing across the winning run in the eighth inning with international tiebreaker rules in effect.
Lehigh will resume its game versus Monmouth Sunday at 11:00 am. The Mountain Hawks will then continue play at the Bash at the Beach on Sunday versus an opponent to be determined.
