Lehigh wallops Temple in Penn Soccer Classic opener

The six goal differential on Friday equaled the largest margin of victory in school history, tying a mark set in 1994 when Lehigh downed Fordham 6-0. Friday’s six goal outburst was the most goals scored in a game by Lehigh since 1997.
“This was an atypical day for us on the attacking side of the ball,” said Lehigh head coach Dean Koski, after earning his 115th career win. “This is a performance that we will try and replicate throughout the remainder of the season, but it’s not every day that you score this often.”
Senior Adam Williamson got the Mountain Hawks on the board when he scored on a corner kick in the 15th minute off a feed from junior Matt Franz. In the 29th minute, Stevens scored on a penalty kick to make the score 2-0. Stevens scored again less than two minutes later, this time from senior Jose Larin, giving the Mountain Hawks a 3-0 advantage. Lehigh freshman Patrick Cucci scored his first collegiate goal, assisted by Joe Verdi, in the 40th minute to make the score 4-0.
In the second half, Lehigh scored twice more to enter the record books. Jim Stevens scored for the third time in the 53rd minute, and newcomer Adam Gazda in the 55th minute, to round out the scoring. Williamson assisted on both second half goals.

In all, every Lehigh player saw significant minutes in Friday’s win. “It was nice to get all the guys in, and for a good stretch,” Koski explained. “That will pay dividends for us down the road.”
