College Station, Texas – Lehigh hung tough in the first game of Friday afternoon’s match with Saint Mary’s, but in the end the 23rd ranked Gaels proved too much, defeating the Mountain Hawks 3-0 in the opening match of the 2005 Texas A&M/McDonalds Invitational at the G. Rollie White Coliseum. Games scores were 30-22, 30-17 and 30-16 as Lehigh’s falls to 0-4 on the season, while Saint Mary’s remains undefeated with a 4-0 record.

The Mountain Hawks played their best volleyball in the opening game as they were able to hang around with the Gaels. After falling behind early, Lehigh rallied to tie game one at 14, and after Saint Mary’s jumped to another lead, the Brown and White battled back to within three at 24-21 before the Gaels went on a 6-1 run to wrap up the first game.

Once again, errors plagued the Mountain Hawks in games two and three. Lehigh committed 11 attack errors in game two and converted on just five of 27 opportunities in game three as the Mountain Hawks fell to the first of two nationally ranked opponents they will face in the tournament.

Michelle Schwendenmann was the only Mountain Hawk to record double figure kills, picking up 10 in 19 attacks. Lehigh hit just .012 for the match. Cassidy Maumus paced the defense with 15 digs. Saint Mary’s hit .304 on the afternoon and was led by Missie Stidham’s 11 kills.

Lehigh will look to snap its losing streak later Friday afternoon, when the Mountain Hawks take on Virginia. First serve set for 5:30 EDT from the G. Rollie White Coliseum on the campus of Texas A&M University.
