Mountain Hawks overpowered by No. 16 Texas A&M

The Aggies proved why they were a top-20 team, racing to fairly comfortable victories in all-three games. The Mountain Hawks once again had troubles attacking, registering only 16 kills and 34 attack errors while hitting for a negative percentage for the match.
“It was definitely a little bit of an intimidating environment for our team,” said head coach Amanda Moran afterwards. “But after the way we battled against a couple good teams yesterday (Saint Mary’s and Virginia) I was disappointed with how things went today.”
Sophomore Shannon Spafford led the Mountain Hawks with five kills. Only senior Nikky Barnes hit for a positive percentage, converting on two of four chances in the loss. Defensively, Cassidy Maumus tallied seven digs, Kathleen Lafferty added six and Courtney Cherry added four digs fir the Mountain Hawks. Cristin Burton led the Aggies with six kills, as Texas A&M was able to allow 14 different players to participate in the win.
“Hopefully this will be a learning experience for our team,” Moran said. “We can take what happened this afternoon and use it to get better as the season goes on.”
