TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Junior Jen Schappert became the first Mountain Hawk in school history to run in the NCAA Championships on Monday afternoon, which took place on the campus of Indiana State University.  Schappert finished in 123rd place in the 6K race, crossing in a time of 21:19 to put the finishing touches on what was a fabulous season for the Maryland native.  Schappert made it to Indiana following an All-Region performance at the Mid-Atlantic Regional on November 12, in which she placed sixth with a time of 20:44.9.

Schappert also earned All-Patriot League First-Team honors this season, for the second straight year, and finished as runner-up in the league championships.  At the 32nd Paul Short Run, Schappert helped lead the Brown and White to a 17th place finish as she came in 25th place overall, and she then backed that up with a 30th place finish at the always tough Penn State National Cross Country Invitational.  In addition, the junior was named the Patriot League Runner of the Week following her performance in the Paul Short Run, in which she became the first Mountain Hawk female to cross in the top-25 since 2001.

The overall winner on Monday was Northern Arizona’s Johanna Nilsson, who finished with a time of 19:33.9, while Stanford took the team crown with 146 points and three top-20 finishers.  On the men’s side, Wisconsin was the overall champion with 37 points and three top-ten runners, led by Simon Bairu who was the individual winner, as the senior finished with a time of 29:16.
