Lehigh rolls past Wagner for first home victory

The Mountain Hawks set a blistering pace in game one, racing to a four point lead early and never looking back. A 6-0 run midway through the game gave Lehigh an 18-10 lead which it would not relinquish as Lehigh hit .406 in the opening game.
Wagner evened things up in game two. Despite hitting for a negative percentage, the Seahawks capitalized on 15 Lehigh attack errors and a slew of service errors to tie the match at one.
Lehigh picked up its intensity in game three, as the Mountain Hawks slowly opened up a lead early, then opening a nine point lead midway through the game. The Brown and White had another solid offensive game, hitting .364 as they took a 2-1 lead.
In game four, the Mountain Hawks opened on a 5-0 run, before having to thwart a Wagner rally midway through. The Seahawks got within two at 19-17, before Lehigh extended its lead and back to back kills from Nikky Barnes and Julia Atkins closed out the match and gave Lehigh its fifth victory of the season.
“It was an ugly win, but its still a win,” said head coach Amanda Moran, who was not pleased with the Mountain Hawks’ 19 service errors on the match. “The good things were we played the whole match within our system, kept our intensity throughout and got points when we needed them.”
Michelle Schwendenmann led the way for the Mountain Hawks, recording a double-double, 19 kills and 12 digs. Schwendenmann hit .280 for the match. Morgan Volkart added 11 kills for Lehigh. Cassidy Maumus collected 16 digs, while Kathleen Lafferty tallied 11 to go with her 16 assists. Liz McGehee had 30 helpers for the Mountain Hawks. As a team Lehigh hit .182 on the evening.
Sirena LaBurn had 10 kills to lead Wagner.
