“Anytime you’re able to get the entire team into the game, it’s a good thing,” explained a very pleased Dean Koski following the game. “Our first half defense was not as sharp as the offense was, but we did some very good things out here tonight.”
John O’Reilly got things going when he took a pass from senior Peter Classi and beat Panther keeper Michael Hurley for a 1-0 Lehigh lead at the 7:46 mark. Stevens then scored his seventh goal of the season off of a direct kick at the 12:02 mark, and did it one more time off of another direct kick at the 16:11 mark, giving the Mountain Hawks a comfortable 3-0 cushion. Senior Adam Williamson was then fouled inside of the box, and converted the ensuing penalty kick, to make the Mountain Hawks a perfect four-of-four on PK’s this season, and give them a 4-0 lead in the match.
Soon after, Koski began unloading the bench, letting many of the backups play significant minutes, including senior Jim Morahan, who played the entire second half in goal. Morahan picked up one save during his time, while Charlie Sales stopped two shots on the night. Lehigh out shot its counterparts 16-10 for the game and had six corner kicks to the Panthers seven.
“Having Jim (Morahan) in goal tonight was big; he helped to preserve the shut out. Jimmy (Stevens) had two great goals tonight, but it’s time to put this one behind us and focus on our matchup this weekend with a Patriot League opponent.
Lehigh returns to action on Saturday evening when the Mountain Hawks travel to Lewisburg to take on the Bison of Bucknell. Game time is set for 7:00.
