Ling, Hamasaki shut down Lafayette in DH sweep

Easton, PA – Lehigh’s offense struggled to get on track in their last time out against Penn, but the Mountain Hawks had no trouble scoring on Saturday as they swept a doubleheader at archrival Lafayette, winning twice by the score of 8-0.
Lehigh rapped out twenty hits on the afternoon, and got tremendous pitching performances from Emily Ling and Heather Hamasaki on the way to the decisive wins.
In the first game, Lehigh broke open a close game in the top of the fifth, plating four runs to break it open 5-0. The Mountain Hawks would add another three in the seventh, helping support Ling, who pitched her fourth two-hit shutout in the last two weeks. Ling struck out nine hitters and walked three as she improved to 9-2 on the year.
Erin Hengemuhle was the offensive star of the game for Lehigh, as she drove in a game high four runs on a pair of doubles and scored a run as well. Shana Treon was a perfect 3-3 on the afternoon and scored a pair, and Jess Young and Mary Wieder each had two hits apiece.
In the second game, Heather Hamasaki pitched a no-hitter, the third Lehigh pitcher to do so this season, striking out an incredible 14 of the 18 batters she faced in six innings of work to earn her fifth win of the season against five losses.
Backing her up offensively, Treon belted her team-leading second home run of the season, a three-run shot in the fourth. Treon finished the day a perfect 4-4 with three RBIs and four runs scored. Young, Britt Swanson, Stephanie Palmieri, and Wieder each drove in a run in the game in addition. Wieder’s base knock stretched her streak to ten straight games with a hit.
