Day one of Penn Relays complete

On the women’s side, sophomore Lauren Barrett showcased her skills in the javelin, recording a throw of 41.52 meters, which placed her in ninth place overall, while teammate Nicole Montegary raced her way to a 39th place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 64.70. Junior Deanna Willard had the best showing of any female Mountain Hawk athlete, coming in seventh place in the 3000-meter steeplechase, as she crossed the finish line in a time of 10:56.81. Katharine Hessler cleared 1.67-meters in the Eastern section of the high jump, good for ninth place and junior Lindsay Hinsch came in 29th place in the Eastern section of the long jump, as she leaped 5.04 meters.
Leading the way in the men’s competition was Vaclav Malek, who registered a fourth place finish in the decathlon, as he compiled 6,452 points. Malek took first in the high jump, as he cleared 2.01 meters, which gave him 813 points towards his total score. He then followed that up with a toss of 36.23 meters in the discuss throw, also good for first place.
Other Lehigh men who performed well were freshman Victor Vientos, who placed 17th in the 3000-meter steeplechase, as he recorded a time of 9:35.14, while the long distance duo of Mark Swanson and Rob Hampson came in 25th and 28th place respectively in the 5000-meter run, as Swanson crossed the finish line in a time of 15:00.41 and Hampson was close behind with a time of 15:03.34.
