Bethlehem, PA – The Mountain Hawks battled both Penn and Mother Nature Wednesday, and Lehigh wasn’t able to beat either one in a doubleheader at Kaufman Field. The Quakers won the opener by a score of 2-1, and the teams battled to a 2-2 tie before darkness set in in game two. The Mountain Hawks wrap up the day with a 21-9-2 record, while the Quakers head back to Philadelphia with an 8-14-1 mark.
In the first game, Heather Hamasaki scattered four singles over seven innings, striking out seven and walking only one. However, the Lehigh bats couldn’t get going, either, and Lehigh came up short. Six different Lehigh players ripped singles in the game, but the Mountain Hawks just couldn’t string together a rally.
In the nightcap, Jessica Young smacked two triples and Shana Treon added another as Lehigh built a 2-1 lead in the third inning. However, the Quakers rallied to tie the score and the game was called shortly after 6:15 due to darkness in the area.
Lehigh will look to get back in the win column on Saturday, when the Mountain Hawks resume Patriot League play against rival Lafayette in Easton. The two teams will play a doubleheader both Saturday and Sunday.
