3/29/2004 12:00:00 AM | Men's Tennis

Annapolis, MD – The score may not show it, but Lehigh gave Navy all they could handle Sunday before dropping a 7-0 contest to the homestanding Midshipmen.  Though the Mountain Hawks did not win a point, they sent four of the singles matches to a deciding third set, and dropped the doubles point by just three games.

In the doubles sets, Ty Esler and Alfredo Frenandez-Concha took their match 8-6 over Haley Dotson and Ryan Osgood.  However, Navy won the other two sets 8-6 and 9-8 to take the point two sets to one.

The singles matches were just as close, as Esler was defeated in the top flight match by Stanley Kahl 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.  Randall Smalley pushed Osgood to a third set also, winning the first 7-5 before dropping the last two 6-2, 6-4. Jon Swanson and Brad Nelson were also three-set victims.

With the loss, Lehigh drops to 7-5 on the season, 0-2 in Patriot League play. The Mountain Hawks continue their season on Saturday, April 3, as they travel to West Point to take on Army.
