Lehigh cruises to sweep of Indianapolis

Tampa, FL – The Lehigh tennis teams got back on track Wednesday as they continued their trip through Florida, as they swept a pair of matches against Indianapolis University. The women dominated their match, losing only three games in the doubles sets and winning in straight sets in all six singles flights to win 7-0. The men’s match was much closer, but Lehigh still pulled away to a 6-1 victory.
For the women, Rachel Samson and Cessa Murasco-Blank each won their matches 6-0, 6-0, while Gwen Dwyer lost only one game in beating Gail Jones 6-0, 6-1 in her contest. In doubles, Dwyer and Star Foster blanked Jones and Jessica Brands 8-0, and Ashley Donohue and Lindsey Long whitewashed Jen Gartner and Christie Brill 8-0.
In the men’s match, Lehigh got back on the winning track thanks to some clutch performances in close matches. Four of the six singles flights went a full three sets, with three going in favor of the Mountain Hawks. Ty Esler defeated Ross Johnson 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 in top flight singles, and Randall Smalley followed that in the second flight with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-0 triumph over Alan Dowell. Brad Nelson was a three set winner in the fifth flight, beating Justin Linder 5-7, 6-2, 6-1.
Lehigh won the doubles point two sets to one, as Esler and Alfredo Fernandez-Concha teamed up to defeat Linder and Rojas 8-4 while Andrew Shapiro and Randall Smalley beat Johnson and Dowell 9-7.
With the wins, the women improve to 7-2 on the season, while the men move to 5-2. The teams are back in action again on Friday as they take on
