Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh took victories in all but one singles match as the Mountain Hawks won their first event of the 2004 season Saturday afternoon, defeating visiting Temple 6-1.  Ty Esler got victories in both singles (6-1, 6-1 over Tyler Wynn) and in doubles, teaming up with freshman Alfredo Fernandez-Concha  to go 2-0 on the afternoon.

In other matches, Jon Swanson and Randall Smalley teamed up for a 9-8 (7-5) victory in doubles over Tyler Wynn and Yhonny Murray.  Smalley also defeated Murray in singles in three sets, 6-4 5-7, 6-4.  James Logan for Temple got their lone point of the day, beating Swanson for Lehigh 7-5, 6-2 in singles.

Freshmen Ryan Lloyd and Brad Nelson started their Mountain Hawks careers off with a bang, winning in doubles 8-5 over James Logan and Matt Stroble, and both won their singles matches as well.

Head coach Dave Shook was pleased with the team’s performance on the day.  “I thought the freshmen played really well for their first time out this season,” said Shook. “We need to get more focus on the doubles though as the season moves on though.”
