Lehigh splits with Howard and Stony Brook

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh split a pair of matches with Howard and Stony Brook on Saturday afternoon at the Lewis Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks defeated Howard by a score of 6-1 before falling to Stony Brook 5-2 in the nightcap. After the day’s results, Lehigh goes to 2-1 on the season.
Against Howard, Lehigh won each match except the fourth singles match. Picking up wins in singles were Ty Esler, Randall Smalley, Ryan Lloyd, Brad Nelson and Alfredo Fernandez Concha. In doubles action, the team of Jon Swanson and Smalley picked up an 8-6 victory in the first slot, while Esler and Fernandez registered an 8-3 win at second doubles. Andrew Shapiro and Nelson defeated Howard 8-1 to seal the sweep in doubles action.
In Lehigh’s match with the Seawolves, the only winners were Smalley and Concha in the second and sixth singles slots respectively. Smalley won by a score of 6-2, 6-3 over Mike Crooks and Concha won a dramatic three-set match 5-7, 6-2 and 6-3.
Lehigh will return to action on the weekend of February 28 and 29 when the Mountain Hawks will first take on Delaware at 2:00 on the 28th and on the 29th, it will be Lehigh and Drexel playing, this time at 1:00.
