Lehigh manhandles York at Penn State Duals

University Park, PA – Lehigh opened up competition at the inaugural Penn State Dual Championships with an impressive 44-3 victory over York (PA). The Mountain Hawks won nine of the ten matches, winning four by pin fall and two others by technical falls.

 

The Mountain Hawks got off to a fast start as Andrew Rizzi pinned Josh Barrick 43 seconds into the opening bout. Lehigh wrestlers would win their first seven matches with John Stout and Cory Cooperman scoring pins and Derek Zinck and Travis Frick winning by technical fall. York picked up its only victory at 184 when Duane Bastress bested David Helfrich 5-4 with the decisive point awarded by riding time. Lehigh would come right back score pins in the final two weight classes to wrap up the decisive victory.

 

The Mountain Hawks will next face Pittsburgh-Johnstown. The Mountain Cats are currently ranked fifth in division II.  The other semifinal pits Penn State against Mercyhurst. The semifinals get underway at noon with the final round to begin at 2:00.
