Lehigh swims well in split with West Chester

For the men, newcomer Jonathan Kearney swam to victory in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 9:49.75. Meanwhile, sophomore Chris Caywood picked up another distance win for the Mountain Hawks in the 500 yard freestyle. His time of 4:47.19 was just slightly better than that of
Other Lehigh men’s winners included junior Sean Herman in the 200 yard freestyle (1:45.12), junior Grant Flothmeier in the 200 yard IM (1:56.97) and 200 yard breaststroke (2:08.24),
The Lehigh women were also impressive at times on Saturday. Freshman Sherri Pickins made quite an impact in the water, capturing first place in the 200 yard butterfly (2:12.06). Classmate Jeannette Braun won the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 56.89.
In relay action, the Lehigh men’s 400 yard freestyle team of Micahel Hay, Sean Herman, Chris Caywood, and Chris Sasada earned a victory.
On the diving platform, Lehigh junior Laura Gray earned four points for her second place finish with a score of 207.75. Lehigh senior Pat Ryan won the men’s competition and the associated nine points with his score of 225.75. Freshman Clark Cohen was second with a score of 216.15.
The Mountain Hawks return to Jacobs Pool this weekend to host Colgate and Navy in the Patriot League openers. Diving will take place beginning Friday night at 6:30, while swimming commences at 1:00 on Saturday afternoon.
