Lehigh continues to roll at Virginia Duals

Hampton, VA – The Mountain Hawks continued to breeze through their bracket in the top half of the Virginia Duals on Friday, moving into the semifinals with a 36-3 win over The Citadel. Lehigh won nine of the ten weight classes in the match, and in two matches so far the team has won 19 of 20 bouts.
With Mario Stuart taking a break at 125, John Stout took his place and dropped an 8-3 decision to Ryan McClester. From there on out though, it was all Lehigh. At 133, Matt Ciasulli recorded his second straight shutout, this time by a much closer margin 2-0 over Sean Markey. At 141, Cory Cooperman registered his second straight tech fall, 18-3 over Levi Duyn. Then at 149, Matt Anderson took care of Travis Piccard by major decision, 15-4.
The Mountain Hawks would continue to pile on the bonus wins, as All-American Derek Zinck defeated Derik Neitz by major decision 16-3 at 157. Top-ranked Troy Letters had Lehigh’s first pin of the Duals, taking down Mike Martinez in just
Travis Frick took a break at 184, and Dave Helfrich stepped up in his stead to defeat John Dickerson 3-1 in overtime for his second varsity win on the season. Matt Cassidy then picked up his second straight win with the team’s sixth bonus win, a 17-5 major decision over Jordan Everett. Finally, Paul Weibel finished off the match with a 6-1 victory over Billy Linane.
The No. 3 Mountain Hawks are now just two victories away from defending their Virginia Duals crown, and will face No. 19 Wisconsin tomorrow in the semis at
