Why Lehigh?: “Lehigh has a good combination of academics and athletics plus a good atmosphere. Everyone on the team gets along very well and works very hard at being the best they can be both on the mat and in the classroom.”

In 2002-03:  In a year of disappointment, Mario had hoped to battle for this third straight trip to NCAAs but an injury in a 3-2 dual loss to EIWA runner-up Matt Valenti of Penn knocked him from the lineup…despite his first losing year, he was 6-3 vs. EIWA rivals, two of them 1-pt defeats to Valenti…among his best bouts were his 8-3 win over Magnani, Brown (5th, EIWA) and a 16-5 major over 6th place, Seth Dunipace, Princeton.

 

In 2001-02: Finished second at the EIWA Championships but did not place at the NCAA Championships… posted an 18-12 overall record on the season… lost to Travis Lee of Cornell 6-2 in the EIWA finals… finished the regular season with a win over defending EIWA Champion Mason Lenhard of Pennsylvania 9-6… had a 6-2 win over NCAA eighth place finisher Chris Rodrigues of North Carolina.

 

In 2000-01: In November 7 wrestle-off, went down with an apparent season-ending injury to his patella tendon, but he rebounded by mid-January to reclaim his starting berth en route to 5-9 dual mark … pinned second seed Kevin El-Hayak in the EIWA semifinals, placing second … claimed fifth place at NCAA Championships and was the highest-placing unseeded grappler … beat three seeds at NCAA Championships, including the fifth, sixth, and twelfth seeds … voted EIWA Rookie of the Year.

 

In 1999-00: Deferred eligibility his freshman season … wrestling unattached finished with a 23-7 record last year … finished third at the Trenton State Tournament and Wilkes Tournament and fifth at the East Stroudsburg Open and Penn State Open … beat two-time New Jersey state champion Tom Noto of Hofstra.

 

In secondary school: Finished with a 102-15 career high school record … finished second in Pennsylvania state tournament as a senior and third as a junior.

 

Personal: Son of Maria Quinones and Mario Stuart … one brother, Carlos and one sister, Jnjanira … earned a 3.1 grade point average in his first year at Lehigh … member of high school honor roll … played football and baseball as a freshman in high school … enjoys lifting and watching television.
