Bethlehem, PA – The Mountain Hawks swept La Salle Saturday afternoon at Jacobs Pool as the teams begin the home stretch of their regular season.  The women topped the Explorers by a score of 138.5 to 103.5 for their second straight victory.  The Lehigh men also proved too much for La Salle, posting a 148-97 triumph.

The Lehigh women impressed throughout, picking up eight victories in thirteen events.  Sophomore Linda Hendrixson had quite the afternoon, as she earned first place finishes in three events.  Hendrixson took first place in the 200 meter fly with a time of 2:12.58, and followed that up with a victory in the 200 meter breaststroke with a time of 2:27.94.  Earlier in the afternoon, Hendrixson was a part of the victorious 400 medley race squad that finished first overall.  She joined senior Linsey Kokal, classmate Becky Hiro, and freshman Julie Mitchell on the winning team.

Dana Berkowitz took the top spot in the 200 meter IM, with a new personal best time of 2:10.78.  Heather Ford won the 200 meter freestyle with a time of 1:58.89.

The Lehigh women also swam well in distance events, as freshman Betsy Balaguer won the 500 meter freestyle race with a time of 5:12.39.  Junior Amanda Warrick won the 1000 meter freestyle with a time of 10:39.03.

On the men’s side, the Mountain Hawks built an early lead and La Salle was unable to recover.  The Lehigh men captured first place in eight events as well.  Sophomore Sean Herman captured first place in the 200 meter freestyle with a time of 1:44.91, and later won the 100 meter freestyle (48.32).  Classmate Ross Green finished first in the 200 meter IM with a time of 1:55.33.

The Lehigh relay teams swam well on Saturday, too.  The Mountain Hawks won both the 400 meter medley (Tom Gilbert, Grant Flothmeier, Ross Green, and Brian Golebiewski) as well as the 400 meter freestyle relay (Herman, Matt Titko, Joe Beagan, and Daniel Buschmann).

Other Lehigh winners included sophomore Jason O’Koren in the 200 meter breaststroke (2:12.27), junior Pat Ryan in the three meter dive (282.3), and junior Joe Beagan in the 200 meter backstroke (1:57.52).

“We swam really well this afternoon,” said Lehigh head coach John Morrison.  “We put forth a good effort on both sides and had a number of personal bests.”

The Mountain Hawks return to action on Saturday, when Lehigh plays host to Patriot League foe Bucknell.  Diving action gets underway at noon at Jacobs Pool.
