Lehigh squanders first half lead

Brooklyn Heights, NY – Lehigh squandered a 10 point halftime lead and fell to St. Francis-NY 100-91 in its season opener on Friday evening at the Pope Physical Education Center. Despite a 23 point effort by senior Scott Taylor, Lehigh was unable to overcome the Terriers 61 point second half. St. Francis shot 71% from the floor in the half and Lehigh shot just 40%. Lehigh shot a commanding 68% from the field in the first half to lead the Terriers 49-39 at the break. Sharp shooting by Alex Jensen and Matt Logie paced the Mountain Hawks in the first half but the Terrier pressure was too much for Lehigh to handle. Jensen finished the game with 18 points and nine assists while Logie scored 12 points, nine in the first half. Bobby Mbom rounded out the Mountain Hawks in double figures with 14 points and ten rebounds. "I thought we played extremely well in the first half," said head coach Sal Mentesana. "When St. Francis turned the pressure up in the second half, we didn’t respond. We need to learn from this and come back with a better effort on Tuesday." Bronski Dockery led St. Francis (1-0) with 27 points on 8-of-13 from the field. Jason Morgan added 25 points and Chris Sockwell scored 24 points and pulled in 13 rebounds. Lehigh returns to action on Tuesday evening in its home opener at Stabler Arena. The Mountain Hawks host Wagner at 7:30.
