Women win, men lose at Rider

Lawrenceville, NJ – The Mountain Hawks split their meet on Saturday at Rider, with the women winning 155-145 and the men falling 161.5-132.5.  For the men, it was their first loss of the season (1-1) after beating Colgate last week, while the women move to 2-1 on the year with the win.

For the women, junior Amanda Warrick got the day started off right with the team’s first victory, winning the 1000 free in a time of 10:38.52. Warrick would add another victory later in the 500 free as well (5:16.40). Heather Ford, coming off a couple wins last week against Colgate, turned in a strong performance, winning the 200 free in 1:59.64 and finishing second to Warrick in the 500 free (5:17.26).

The Mountain Hawk women also got stellar swimming from a new face, as freshman Julie Mitchell won both backstroke events, taking the 100 back in 1:01.24 and the 200 back in 2:11.49 for her first victories at Lehigh. Other winners for the squad were Jen Lindenmuth in the 200 fly in 2:14.31, Dana Berkowitz in the 200 IM (2:13.92), and diver Laura Gray in the 3 meter with a score of 187.65.

For the men, they were led on the day by junior Ross Green, who led all swimmers with three wins on the day. In the 50 free, Green earned a rare tie with Eric McFerin of Rider, with each finishing in a time of 22.06. Green then edged McFerin out in the 100 free, winning in a time of 48.48, and finished off his day with a victory in the 100 fly (51.37).  Two other Mountain Hawks had two wins for the men, as sophomore Grant Flothmeier won the100 breast in 58.83 and the 200 breast in 2:08.98. Diver Pat Ryan won two events, the 1 meter dive (240.52 points) and the 3 meter dive (262.42 points).

            The Mountain Hawks will open their Patriot League season on Friday, November 21, as they welcome rival Lafayette to Jacobs Pool.  The meet is set to begin at 7:00.
