Lehigh is sunk by West Chester

West Chester, PA – Lehigh was defeated by West Chester on Saturday in the first scored meet of the season for the Mountain Hawks. Setting the pace for the women’s team with exceptional performances were Amanda Warrick and Heather Ford in the 1000-meter freestyle race. Freshman Betsy Balaguer also put together a strong performance in the 200 and 500-meter races, as she swam to a second place finish in the 200 and a third place showing in the 500.
Other Mountain Hawks who performed well were sophomore Linda Hendrixson, who took home first place in the 400-yard IM race, as she finished in a time of 4:45.38. On the men’s side, Grant Flothmeier swam very well for so early in the season in the 100 and 200 breast relay, winning both races handily. Joey Beagen and Tom Gilbert also put together solid performances in the backstroke events.
In the diving competitions, Patrick Ryan placed second on the one-meter and won the three-meter diving competition, while Laura Gray placed second on both boards.
“The team swam extremely well today,” Head Coach John Morrison said, “It was a hard fought meet against a very talented West Chester team. Out team did not falter in enthusiasm or grit. They put some great times up for this time of the season. We are looking forward to starting Patriot League competition next week.”
Lehigh returns to the pool on Saturday when the Mountain Hawks travel to Annapolis, MD, to take on Patriot League foes, Colgate and Navy. The first meet is scheduled to get underway at 12:00.
