Dave Bender enters his 18th season on the Lehigh softball coaching staff, after being a long time assistant at New Jersey high school powerhouse Hunterdon Central. Bender is responsible for the Mountain Hawks defense in practices and in games.
Bender’s daughter Jenny graduated from Lehigh in 2003 and was the team softball team captain. She was honored as a Mid-Atlantic Regional All-American in both 2001 and 2003 and a Verizon Academic All-American as a senior. She was also the Patriot League Tournament MVP in 2001 and was selected to the All-Patriot League First Team from 2000-2003. She was honored with the Lehigh Coaches Award three years in a row.
Prior to coming to Lehigh, Bender served as an assistant coach for a Hunterdon Central team that has consistently competed in the state tournament, and won the state championship in May, 1999. Hunterdon Central is consistently one of the best teams in the state of New Jersey.
Bender resides with his wife, Doreen, in Brielle, N.J. He owns Dave’s Heavy Towing, and Jenny Lee Sportfishing.
