Charlie Noonan is entering his first season with Lehigh as the Mountain Hawks’ linebackers coach and run defense coordinator.

Noonan joins the Mountain Hawks from Holy Cross, where he spent four seasons as a defensive line coach. During his first season with the Crusaders, Noonan worked with Dewayne Cameron, a defensive end who earned first team All-Patriot League honors twice, as well as a spot on the first team All-New England. In his second season at Holy Cross in 2016, defensive end Ryan Smith led the Patriot League with 12 sacks. Last season, his defense earned 23 sacks for 154 yards and forced 12 fumbles. In 2018, Noonan mentored Teddy Capsis to first team All-Patriot League honors.

Prior to joining the Crusaders, Noonan spent two seasons at Rutgers, his alma mater, as a graduate assistant coach during the 2013 and 2014 seasons. While at Rutgers, Noonan served as a mentor to Kemoko Turay, who earned an All-Big Ten honorable mention after leading the team with 7.5 sacks in 2014. The year prior, Noonan helped coach a defense that allowed just 100.8 rushing yards per game, the fourth-best in the country. Additionally, Noonan saw defensive player Marcus Thompson sign a NFL contract at the conclusion of the 2013 campaign.

Before moving on to Rutgers, Noonan spent a season at Division III Thiel College (Pa.) in 2012. Competing in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference, Thiel’s defense finished its season first in the league in both sacks and rushing defense, while finishing in second place in tackles for loss and total defense.

In 2011, Noonan served as a volunteer assistant coach at the Haverford School (Pa.), where he worked with the defense.

Noonan graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in economics in 2010. While at Rutgers, he was elected as a team captain for the 2009 season. Noonan played in 48 games during his time at Rutgers, where he made 72 tackles as a two-year starter.
