BETHLEHEM, Pa. – No. 2 Lehigh men's basketball welcomes the No. 4 Boston University Terriers to Stabler Arena for the Patriot League Championship game on Wednesday evening. The Mountain Hawks are making their second championship game appearance in three years and fourth in the past ten years.
Lehigh (17-16, 11-7 PL) trails BU (17-16, 10-8 PL) in the all-time series 17-12. The Mountain Hawks and Terriers are 2-2 against one another in postseason competition, the latest being an 84-79 overtime victory for Lehigh in the 2024 Patriot League semifinals. The Mountain Hawks won both regular season meetings between the two schools, including Murray H. Goodman '48 head coach Brett Reed's 300th career win on February 22.
A career-high 30 points from sophomore Hank Alvey propelled Lehigh men's basketball to a 76-69 win over the Colgate Raiders in the Patriot League Championship semifinal on Sunday afternoon. Alvey shot 13-18 from the field with five rebounds and three blocks. Nasir Whitlock recorded his second career double-double, notching 22 points and a career-high 10 assists. Joshua Ingram joined Alvey and Whitlock in double-figures with 11 points, six rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Edouard Benoit added seven points and a game-high nine rebounds while Andrew Urosevic chipped in six off the bench.
The Terriers enter Wednesday's championship game off the heels of a miraculous buzzer beater from freshman Chance Gladden to stun top-seeded Navy 73-72 in the semifinals. Gladden, a third team All-Patriot League and All-Rookie team selection, pushed the Terriers past fifth-seeded American in the quarterfinal round on a pull-up mid-range jumper with less than five seconds remaining. BU is led offensively by first team All-Patriot League selection Michael McNair at 17.0 points per game on 48.8% from the field and 45.6% from three. Second team All-Patriot League member Ben Defty (14.9 ppg) and Gladden (14.5 ppg) also average double-figures for BU.
Should Lehigh win, the Mountain Hawks will await Sunday's selection show to see their seeding and opponent in the NCAA Tournament.
