Lehigh Travels To American University For Pivotal Patriot League Game

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's basketball hits the road on Wednesday evening for a pivotal Patriot League bout against the American University Eagles at Bender Arena in Washington, D.C.
Lehigh (13-16, 9-7 PL) leads American (16-13, 9-7 PL) in the all-time series 35-30 and have won six of the past ten meetings. The Mountain Hawks defeated the Eagles 90-82 this season at Stabler Arena on February 11. AU won both matchups against Lehigh a season ago.
If Lehigh wins, the Mountain Hawks will clinch a top-three seed and home quarterfinal game in the Patriot League tournament. In addition, Murray H. Goodman '48 head coach Brett Reed's record against American would move to 25-15.
Led by a 30-point performance by junior captain Nasir Whitlock, Lehigh men's basketball erased a 13-point second half deficit to defeat the Boston University Terriers 70-67 on Sunday afternoon at Stabler Arena. The win marked Reed's 300th career victory. Whitlock shot 9-16 from the field and a perfect 9-9 from the free throw line. Whitlock has scored 30+ points seven times this season, which ties him for the most in the country. Jalen Vazquez was huge for the Mountain Hawks on both ends, scoring ten points with four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Hank Alvey put up nine points, three rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. Peter Kramer chipped in eight points off the bench while Joshua Ingram added seven points, five rebounds, and four assists.
American enters Wednesday's contest tied with Lehigh for third place in the Patriot League standings. The Eagles have won their last three games, with their most recent loss being against Lehigh on February 11. AU's most recent win was a 75-61 victory over Lafayette on Sunday. Freshman Madden Collins leads the Eagles in scoring at 13.5 points per game. Greg Jones (12.1 ppg) and Julen Iturbe (10.2 ppg) also average double-figures for the Eagles.
Following Wednesday's game, the Mountain Hawks will conclude the Patriot League regular season against Bucknell at Stabler Arena on Saturday, February 28 at 2 p.m. on Senior Day.
