BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's basketball will welcome Loyola Maryland to Stabler Arena on Monday at 7 p.m. for a nationally televised contest on CBS Sports Network.
Lehigh (7-12, 3-3 PL) trails Loyola (6-13, 2-4 PL) in the all-time series by a slim margin of 18-17. The Greyhounds defeated the Mountain Hawks in all three meetings last season, including a 77-73 result in the Patriot League Championship First Round.
If Lehigh wins, head coach Brett Reed would win his 295th game, putting him only five away from becoming the second coach in Patriot League history to reach 300 wins. In addition, Reed's record vs. Loyola would improve to 13-14.
Riding a three-game win streak, Lehigh welcomed the first-place Navy Midshipmen to Stabler Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks and Midshipmen battled all the way to two overtimes, but Navy ultimately pulled out an 82-79 win. Nasir Whitlock was huge for Lehigh once again, scoring 31 points on 10-20 shooting and 9-9 from the free throw line. The junior captain has scored 30+ points in back-to-back games and has surpassed the 30-point mark four times this season. Edouard Benoit scored 16 points with seven rebounds, Joshua Ingram put up 11 points with four steals, and Hank Alvey posted eight points with seven rebounds. Austin Benigni led the charge for the Mids, scoring 34 points while playing all 50 minutes of regulation and both overtimes.
Loyola enters Monday's contest with a record of 6-13 and 2-4 in league play. The Greyhounds defeated Boston University 74-57 at home on Saturday and picked up their other league win over Army on January 7. Jacob Theodosiou leads the Greyhounds offensively at 15.1 points per game while Braeden Speed (13.8 ppg) and Emmett Adair (11.9 ppg) also average double-digit points.
