BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Three members of the Lehigh track and field teams have been selected to the Academic All-Patriot League teams for Indoor Track and Field, the league announced Wednesday. Junior Laura Reigle represents the Lehigh women on the academic all-league team, while senior Jonathan Bennett and junior Joseph Nowakowski earned academic all-league honors for the men's team.
Â
Reigle picked up her third career Academic All-Patriot League honor after being recognized following the 2024 indoor and outdoor championships. A design major with a 3.85 cumulative GPA, Reigle posted her third consecutive podium finish in the indoor pole vault, claiming second place after clearing 3.95m last weekend in Annapolis, Md. Reigle won the event as a first-year in 2023 and finished third last year, to go along with two outdoor Patriot League titles in the event. She is also a two-time NCAA East Regional qualifier in the pole vault.
Â
The Academic All-Patriot League honors are the first for both Bennett and Nowakowski.
Â
Bennett scored for Lehigh in the 60m hurdles, finishing in seventh place in the event and running an 8.27 in Saturday's preliminaries. Lehigh's school record holder in the 60m hurdles, Bennett posted a pair of runner-up finishes in 60m hurdle events during the regular season. An English major with a 3.80 GPA, Bennett is a three-year member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and has made Lehigh's Dean's List with a GPA greater than 3.6 in each of his first seven semesters on campus.
Â
Nowakowski was one of three podium finishers for the Lehigh's men's team at last weekend's championship meet. He claimed third place in the shot put on Sunday, throwing 15.94m. Last month Nowakowski threw a season-best 16.04m in Lehigh's dual meet victory over Lafayette. Academically, Nowakowski holds a 3.91 cumulative GPA as a philosophy major. He has made the Dean's List in his first five semesters and has had a perfect 4.0 GPA in three out of five semesters.
Â
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
Â
Boston University earned both the male and female Scholar-Athlete of the Year with Foster Malleck and Vera Sjöberg winning those respective awards.
Â
The Patriot League Championships, where Lehigh's women finished fourth and the men sixth, marked the end of the Mountain Hawks' indoor season. The outdoor season begins March 14 with javelin throwers heading to Elon's Phoenix Invitational in North Carolina. The full squads will make their outdoor debut at the March 22 Keystone Challenge at Shippensburg.
