Mountain Hawks Complete Opening Day At Patriot League Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Lehigh men's track and field team scored 11 points on day one of the Patriot League Championships at Navy's Wesley A. Brown Field House. Saturday's Lehigh action was highlighted by nine PRs, two track athletes qualifying for Sunday finals, two all-time top 10 marks and a podium finish in the 4x800m relay. The Mountain Hawks currently sit in fifth place out of nine teams.

Jumps
First-year Jaden Ferguson scored five team points with a fourth-place finish in the long jump. Ferguson's lead of 7.16m set a new PR and moved him into a tie for fifth all-time.

Senior Jack Murphy was the only Mountain Hawk to clear a height in the pole vault, finishing 12th by clearing 4.40m.

Sprints/Hurdles
Lehigh placed two student-athletes in Sunday's 60m hurdles final. Senior Jonathan Bennett qualified fifth with a time of 8.27, while sophomore Nathan Oliphant ran 8.31 to qualify sixth and move into seventh place all-time.

In the 60m dash, sophomore Eddie Moore ran 6.92 to finish 10th, while first-year Quinten Slaughter finished 15th with a time of 6.99.

Slaughter led Lehigh runners in the 200m, finishing 19th in 22.34. Senior Patrez Thomas finished 22nd in 22.59. First-year Austin Iburg posted PRs in the 200 (22.90) and the 400 (50.99). Thomas led Lehigh runners in the 400, finishing 11th with a time of 50.11.

Mid-Distance/Distance
Senior Ethan Hood (1:54.48) and first-year Peter Priestner (1:55.92) both ran PRs in the 800m to finish 14th and 15th respectively.

Sophomore Ryan Baker led a quartet of Lehigh runners in the 5000m finishing 15th with a PR of 15:06.07.

In Saturday's final event, Lehigh's 4x800m relay team of junior Dan Malatesta, sophomore Thomas Smigo, senior Aidan Lynch and first-year Ian Zalewski scored six points with a third-place finish in 7:43.02.

Senior Liam Lovering led three Mountain Hawks in the weight throw, finishing 10th with an effort of 16.33m.

Army West Point leads the team race with five out of 18 events completed. The Black Knights have 74 points, followed by Navy with 55 and Bucknell with 19.
