Lehigh Drops 6-1 Decision To Monmouth

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's tennis returned to action from the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center on Thursday evening for a date with the visiting Monmouth Hawks. The Mountain Hawks fell by a score of 6-1.
Lehigh (2-2) suffered a setback to begin the match, dropping the opening doubles point to Monmouth (5-0). Monmouth's Adam Hillerby and Jakob Bonnett defeated the pairing of Jose Murariu and Wyeth Anzilotti 6-1 at number two to start doubles competition. Marc Blekhman and Sean Jaeger then earned their third doubles win of the season at number one to even the score. At number three, Alex Martinez Sanz and Diego Laporta of Monmouth picked up a 6-3 win over Jackson Morash and Rafael Gracie to clinch the doubles point for the Hawks.
Monmouth also struck first in singles play, picking up a two-set win at number four from Louis Keller over Morash. Martinez Sanz then picked up a 6-1, 6-4 win over Blekhman at number two to put Monmouth one win away from clinching the dual meet victory. After earning a set one victory, Jaeger fell in three sets to Hillerby at number three, securing the victory for Monmouth.
Following Monmouth's clinch, the Hawks earned another win by way of a two-set win at number five for Bonnett over Anzilotti. The Mountain Hawks then earned their first victory of the night from Murariu at number one after he defeated Mateo Bivol in a three-set thriller. In the final match of the night, Benedict Horn-Bourque dropped a 7-5, 7-6 decision to Oleksandr Vysochenko at number six.
The Mountain Hawks will next open Patriot League play on the road against Colgate on Sunday, February 23 at 4 p.m.
