BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League season begins on Wednesday afternoon for Lehigh men's basketball in a New Year's Eve clash against Army West Point at 12 p.m. from Stabler Arena.
Lehigh (4-9) trails Army West Point (6-7) 71-50 in the all-time series, but the Mountain Hawks are 24-15 against the Black Knights under head coach Brett Reed. The Mountain Hawks split the season series in 2024-25 but won the most recent meeting 89-67 in West Point on March 1. Joshua Ingram led the way for Lehigh with a double-double of 23 points and 13 rebounds in the win.
If Lehigh wins, Reed would win his 292nd game, putting him only eight away from becoming the second coach in Patriot League history to reach 300 wins.
The Mountain Hawks check into league play with a record of 4-9, most recently falling 76-62 at Monmouth on December 21. Ingram scored a team-high 20 points in the loss while junior captain Nasir Whitlock chipped in 18. Sophomore Hank Alvey hauled in ten rebounds, marking his third consecutive game grabbing ten or more boards. Whitlock leads both Lehigh and the Patriot League in scoring at 19.6 points per game. Alvey (11.6 ppg), Ingram (10.8 ppg) and first-year Andrew Urosevic (10.0 ppg) are also averaging double-figures for Lehigh.
Army enters Wednesday's league opener with a record of 6-7, having defeated Binghamton in their last outing. The Black Knights went 10-8 in league play a season ago, falling to Colgate in the Patriot League quarterfinals. Army lost three of its four top scorers from last season in Jalen Rucker, Josh Scovens, and AJ Allenspach. Four players are averaging double-figures in their absence, those being Ryan Curry (13.7 ppg), Jaxson Bell (10.8 ppg), Jackson Furman (10.5 ppg), and Jacen Holloway (10.2).
