BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh head coach Kevin Cahill has been named one of 15 finalists for the Eddie Robinson Award, presented to the national coach of the year in FCS football, Stats Perform announced Monday.
This is the second consecutive season that Cahill has been named a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award. The third-year mentor has now led Lehigh to back-to-back Patriot League championships and NCAA Playoff appearances.
At 12-0, Cahill guided the Mountain Hawks to their sixth undefeated regular season in program history. Lehigh's 12 wins tie the school record held by the 1977, 1998 and 2000 squads, while its in-season 12-game winning streak matches the longest in school history. The Mountain Hawks have also won a FCS-best 17 consecutive regular season games dating back to last season.
Lehigh boasts one of the nation's top defenses with the Mountain Hawks ranking in the top five nationally against the run, in yards allowed, in scoring defense and in sacks. Offensively, Lehigh ranks fourth in the country in rushing, coming off a 320-yard effort against Lafayette, the Mountain Hawks' fourth 300-yard rushing game this season.
The Mountain Hawks are the No. 5 seed in the NCAA FCS Playoffs and will host a second round game at Goodman Stadium on Dec. 6 between the winner of Harvard and No. 12 Villanova with game time set for noon. Tickets can be purchased at LehighTickets.com.
