Mountain Hawks Push Past Drexel 71-57

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Four players scored in double figures and Lehigh put forth a strong defensive effort as the Mountain Hawks defeated Drexel 71-57 Wednesday night at Stabler Arena. First-year Leia Edwards led the way with 22 points and added five rebounds and six assists as she scored in double figures for the third consecutive game.
Defensively, Lehigh limited Drexel to 35 percent shooting, including just 3-of-13 from 3-point range. The Mountain Hawks also recorded seven steals, including four from sophomore Belle Bramer, who also chipped in 12 points.
Junior Jessie Ozzauto (17 points) and senior Lily Fandre (14) also reached double figures as Lehigh (2-3) won at Stabler Arena for the first time this season, while handing Drexel (4-1) its first loss of the campaign.
Lehigh shot a season-best 52 percent from the field and recorded 17 assists on 27 made field goals.
An Ozzauto layup and two Edwards free throws in the final minute of the first period staked the Mountain Hawks to a 15-12 lead after one quarter. Lehigh doubled up Drexel 18-9 in the second to lead 33-21 at the break.
Lehigh led by 10, 49-39 after three quarters and saw its lead balloon as high as 20 on two Fandre free throws with 4:18 remaining. The Mountain Hawks did enough to withstand Drexel's pressure and made 4-of-6 from the free throw line in the final quarter to close out the home victory.
The Mountain Hawks shot 7-of-24 from deep, led by Ozzauto's three 3-pointers. Fandre narrowly missed a double-double adding nine rebounds to her 14 points. Junior Gracyn Lovette matched Edwards with six assists, to go along with six points and seven boards.
Amaris Baker led Drexel with 21 points, while Laine McGurk added 10.
The Mountain Hawks will now head to northern California for their next two games, beginning with a visit to Stanford, Sunday at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT. Lehigh will also face San Francisco on Nov. 25.
