Hayden Johnson Named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh sophomore quarterback Hayden Johnson was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. Johnson set a new career high for passing yards while leading the Mountain Hawks offense on five scoring drives, as Lehigh moved to 8-0 on the season with a 27-6 win at Fordham.
Johnson completed 17-of-26 passes for 267 yards Saturday in the Bronx, N.Y. He added 28 rushing yards on six carries and scored Lehigh's first touchdown of the game on a one-yard rush in the second quarter. The 17 completions tied Johnson's career high, while the 267 passing yards established a new career best or the third time in Lehigh's last four games. Johnson remained sharp throughout the game, completing 4-of-4 passes and adding a 17-yard rush as the Mountain Hawks drove 93 yards, leading to a Nick Garrido field goal to put Lehigh up by 21 points with 1:50 remaining.
For the season, the Lancaster, Pa., product is completing 62.4 percent of his passes for 1,579 yards, with 12 touchdowns and three interceptions. He has also rushed for 242 yards and three touchdowns. Over Lehigh's last six games, Johnson is averaging 219.2 passing yards per game with 10 touchdown passes and zero interceptions.
Senior linebacker Brycen Edwards picked up honorable mention recognition from the league after registering a career-high 13 tackles, plus 1.5 sacks in the victory at Fordham. Edwards leads the Mountain Hawks with 65 tackles and has 3.5 sacks in his last two games.
The Mountain Hawks are holding steady at No. 7 in both the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 and the AFCA Coaches Poll.
