Lehigh's Comeback Falls Short to Colgate

1/8/2025 9:28:00 PM | Women's Basketball

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh women's basketball's five-game-win streak was snapped as the Mountain Hawks suffered a 70-66 loss to Colgate Wednesday night at Stabler Arena.  Lehigh fell to 11-4 on the season (2-1 PL) and Colgate improved to 11-5 (1-2 PL).

The Raiders also became the first team to beat Lehigh on its home court this season as the Mountain Hawks entered the game 7-0 at Stabler Arena before Wednesday's game.

Down by as many as 22 points with 6:07 left in the third quarter, Lehigh started to cut into Colgate's lead after shooting a quarter-high 72.7% from the field on 8-of-11 shooting. The Mountain Hawks used a 7-0 run to take a 54-42 deficit heading into the fourth quarter.

Lehigh continued its hot shooting in the fourth quarter. Lovette converted a layup plus a foul with 8:23 remaining in the game, trimming the Raiders lead to single digits for the first time since the first quarter. The Mountain Hawks would not stop there, continuing to trim their deficit.

Albrecht scored a layup-and-a-foul off a Lovette assist with four seconds remaining to pull Lehigh within three points, which would be the fewest points the Mountain Hawks would trail by since the opening minute. Colgate's Anne Bair responded with a free throw to put the Raiders up by two possessions, ultimately putting the game out of reach.

Albrecht finished with a game-high 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Lovette scored 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting. Lovette also dished out a game-high three assists.

Colgate started the game on a 12-0 run and would not look back from there. The Raiders held a lead for the entire game on Wednesday. Colgate got off to a 34-19 lead at halftime after holding Lehigh to just six made field goals in the first half and just five points in the first quarter.

Lehigh shot 23-of-48 (47.9%)  from the field on Wednesday and 6-of-19 (31.6%) from beyond the arc. The Raiders shot 21-of-45 (46.7%) from the field and 8-of-20 (40.0%) from long range.

Colgate held a 28-18 advantage in rebounding on Wednesday. Junior forward Lily Fandre grabbed a team-high of seven rebounds. Fandre, junior forward Whitney Lind and first-year guard Belle Bramer all finished with seven points apiece.

The Raiders were led by Taylor Golembiewski, who finished with 18 points.

Next up, Lehigh will hit the road for a matchup at Army on Sunday at 1 p.m. Sunday's game will be aired on ESPN+.
